ARION GARDEN

At an existing country house in western Euboea, near Eretria, the owners commissioned us to design the surrounding area of the garden and the vegetation.

The garden was already divided into three parts, each with its own characteristics and requirements. The design of the space was implemented based on the needs of the family, as well as the basic constraint of the lack of communal water on the island.

In the northern part, the owners wanted an open space and shade for sitting during the summer. In that part we covered part of the soil with gray slate pebbles, and separated it from the rest of the soil with firebricks. The planting here is sparse, with deciduous trees and shrubs that are resistant to northern winds and shade.

In the western part, the shallow depth of the garden led to the creation of a small botanical garden with aromatic plants. A protective railing for small children was also designed there, adapted to the existing parapet.

In the southern part, the largest part of the plot, in front of the central terrace and the pool, the planting was designed to be dense, mostly low in order to leave the view of the sea unobstructed, and with a variety of species and colors. In between them, oval-shaped slabs of slate were placed to facilitate passage from one side of the courtyard to the other, towards the parking area.

For the selection of all plants, we took into account their orientation and location, as well as their resistance to drought conditions. Our goal was to create a diverse garden with Mediterranean plants adapted to the nature and landscape of the island of Euboea.

ΚΗΠΟΣ ΑΡΙΩΝ

Σε μια υφιστάμενη εξοχική κατοικία στη δυτική Εύβοια, κοντά στην Ερέτρια, οι ιδιοκτήτες μας ανέθεσαν τον σχεδιασμό του περιβάλλοντος χώρου και την μελέτη φύτευσης.

Ο κήπος της κατοικίας χωρίζονταν ήδη σε τρία μέρη, το καθένα με τις ιδιαιτερότητες και τις απαιτήσεις του. Ο σχεδιασμός του χώρου υλοποιήθηκε εξ αρχής βάσει των αναγκών της οικογένειας, καθώς και με τον βασικό περιορισμό της έλλειψης κοινοτικού νερού στο νησί.

Στο βόρειο τμήμα, οι ιδιοκτήτες ήθελαν ανοιχτωσιά και σκίαση για να κάθονται τα ζεστά καλοκαίρια. Εκεί, επιλέχθηκε η κάλυψη μέρους του χώρου με γκρι βότσαλο από σχιστόλιθο, ενώ ο διαχωρισμός του με το υπόλοιπο χώμα έγινε από πυρότουβλα. Η φύτευση, αντιστοίχως, είναι αραιή, με δέντρα φυλλοβόλα και περιμετρικά θάμνους, ανθεκτικούς στους βορεινούς ανέμους και στη σκιά.

Στο δυτικό τμήμα, το χαμηλό βάθος του κήπου οδήγησε στη δημιουργία ενός βοτανόκηπου με αρωματικά φυτά. Επίσης, εκεί σχεδιάστηκε ειδικό προστατευτικό κιγκλίδωμα για τα μικρά παιδιά, προσαρμοσμένο σε υπάρχον στηθαίο.

Στο νότιο τμήμα, το μεγαλύτερο του οικοπέδου, μπροστά από την κεντρική βεράντα και την πισίνα, η φύτευση σχεδιάστηκε πυκνή, χαμηλή ως επί το πλείστον για να αφήσει απροσπέλαστη τη θέα προς τη θάλασσα και με πληθώρα ειδών και χρωμάτων. Ανάμεσά τους, τοποθετήθηκαν οβάλ πελεκητά πατήματα από σχιστόλιθο διευκολύνοντας το πέρασμα από τη μια άκρη της αυλής ως το χώρο στάθμευσης.

Για την επιλογή όλων των φυτών, λήφθηκε υπόψιν ο προσανατολισμός και η θέση τους, και η αντοχή τους σε καταστάσεις λειψυδρίας. Στόχος μας ήταν η δημιουργία ενός ποικιλόμορφου κήπου, με μεσογειακά φυτά, προσαρμοσμένα στη φύση και το τοπίο του νησιού της Εύβοιας.
